Historian and bestselling author Ian Mortimer lifts the lid on what is arguably the most-loved period in British history, the Regency or Georgian era.

Join him as he takes us on a thrilling journey to the past. This is the age of Jane Austen and the Romantic poets; of the paintings of John Constable, the gardens of Humphry Repton; the sartorial elegance of Beau Brummell and the poetic licence of Lord Byron. It was a time when Britain saw military triumphs at Trafalgar and Waterloo; the threat of revolution and the Peterloo massacre.

A time of exuberance, thrills and frills as well as enormous social, economic and political change, this was perhaps the last age of freedom before the arrival of the stifling world of Victorian morality. With Bath being one of the most important centres of social life outside London, with grand balls taking place beneath the glittering chandeliers of the Assembly Rooms, the Pump Room and the grand houses of the Royal Crescent, expect tales of extravagance and unchecked bad behaviour.

You will never see Georgian Bath in the same way again!
